Foreign Employment Savings Bond announced for Nepalese Migrant Workers

March 5, 2025: The Government of Nepal, through the Public Debt Management Office (PDMO), has announced the issuance of the Foreign Employment Savings Bond 2085 (NFPB05022086). This initiative is targeted at Nepali migrant workers offering them a secure investment opportunity.

Key Features of the Bond:

  • Name of the Bond: Foreign Employment Savings Bond 2085 (NFPB05022086)
  • Total Issuance Amount: NPR 5 billion
  • Annual Interest Rate: 8.5%
  • Interest Payment: Every six months, directly to the investor’s bank account
  • Maturity Period: 4 years
  • Minimum Investment: NPR 10,000
  • Maximum Investment: Total available issuance amount

Eligibility and Purchase Process:

The bond is specifically designed for Nepali citizens who have been working abroad for at least six months. Additionally, migrant workers can also purchase bonds in the name of their immediate family members, including parents, spouse, and children.

Interested investors can apply online via the Investor Portal of the PDMO at https://investor.doms.gov.np. The application window is open from Falgun 15, 2081 (February 27, 2025).

Secondary Market and Liquidity:

Bondholders can trade the securities in the secondary market through Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE). Additionally, investors can access Debt Office Management System (DOMS) and Investor Portal for trading and other bond-related transactions.

Redemption and Interest Payment Dates:

  • Redemption Date: Chaitra 18, 2085 (April 1, 2029)
  • First Interest Payment Date: Chaitra 18, 2082 (April 1, 2026)
