Public Awareness: Use 999 Only for Real Emergencies, Dubai Police Urges

Dubai Police have reminded the public to reserve 999 strictly for real emergencies and to use 901 for all non-emergency inquiries. The reminder comes after it was revealed that a significant portion of calls to 999 are unnecessary, wasting critical resources.

From July to September 2024, Dubai Police received 1.64 million emergency calls, but many of these did not qualify as emergencies. Calls to the 901 non-emergency line increased during the same period, reaching 121,000, indicating growing public awareness.

The “Don’t Keep Their Lives on Hold” campaign aims to ensure emergency resources remain available for those in genuine need. Police highlighted that their emergency response team answers most 999 calls within 10 seconds and reaches emergency scenes in an average of 6.3 minutes.

Key Message: For non-urgent matters, such as general inquiries or minor complaints, please call 901. Save 999 for emergencies where immediate assistance is required. Image Credit: Gulfnews
