Abu Dhabi, UAE – On September 23, 2024, the Embassy of Nepal in Abu Dhabi hosted a grand reception at the Sheraton Hotel, Corniche, in honor of Nepal’s National Day and Constitution Day. The event was graced by high-profile dignitaries, including the Guest of Honor, Honorable Noura Bint Mohammed Al Kaabi, Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates.

The gathering saw attendance from a diverse group of ambassadors, senior diplomats, entrepreneurs, and business leaders from both the UAE and Nepal. His Excellency Mr. Tej Bahadur Chhetri, Nepal’s Ambassador to the UAE, addressed the audience, paying tribute to the Nepali martyrs who fought for democracy and underscoring the constitutional values that shape Nepal today.

In his speech, Ambassador Chhetri lauded the strong bilateral relations between Nepal and the UAE, which have flourished since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1977. He noted that these ties are founded on mutual trust, respect, and cooperation, contributing to global peace and harmony. He also highlighted the UAE’s remarkable achievements in economic growth and development, recognizing the country’s rapid progress on the world stage.

Ambassador Chhetri also spoke warmly of the nearly half a million-strong Nepali community in the UAE, emphasizing their role as a “vibrant connecting thread” in fostering people-to-people relations between the two nations. He expressed his gratitude to the UAE government for its support and cooperation towards the Nepali community residing in the country.

During his remarks, Ambassador Chhetri also drew attention to the devastating effects of climate change on the Himalayas, stressing the importance of protecting the mountain ecosystems and civilizations. He called on the international community to take collective action to preserve the fragile biodiversity and ecosystems in the world’s mountainous regions.

The evening was marked by a ceremonial cake-cutting, jointly carried out by the Guest of Honor, Honorable Noura Al Kaabi, and Ambassador Chhetri. Guests were treated to a tourism promotional video showcasing Nepal’s rich cultural heritage and scenic landscapes. The celebration also featured traditional Nepali dance performances and music, delighting the 300 attendees.
Ms. Ranjita Dahal, counselor and Deputy Chief of Mission, skillfully conducted the program, making it a memorable event for all who were present.
